What is an HMI?

An HMI, also known as a Human Machine Interface, is an operating panel that allows operators and machines to effectively interact.

An HMI offers a visual representation of the operation of the machine providing real-time data. Accurate implementation can increase productivity by having a centralised control centre in an intuitive ergonomic and user friendly manner.

Advantages of using an HMI

There are many advantages of using HMI:

  • User-friendly Interface
  • Smooth Human/Machine Interaction
  • Lowers Production Costs
  • Capable of High Capacity and Interactive Functions
  • Converting hardware to Software
  • Remote Access
  • Supports Complex Applications

Good characteristics of an HMI

All good quality HMI’s should include the following characteristics:

  • Clarity: Avoiding any ambiguity by ensuring everything is clear through language, flow and visual elements.
  • Concision: Ensuring that there aren’t too many things are on the screen to avoid the interface from
  • Familiarity: Even if someone uses an interface for the first time, certain elements can still be familiar.
  • Responsiveness: An HMI should be responsive, providing feedback to the user quickly.
  • Consistency: Keeping an HMI consistent across your application is important as it allows for users to recognise patterns.
  • Appealing: A well designed HMI will allow users using your application to find it more enjoyable.
  • Efficiency: A good HMI should improve user productivity with the use of shortcuts and a good design.

HMI Panels from Heason Technology

We supply a wide range of HMI Panels which are highly flexible and designed specifically for advanced applications in complex systems or processes.

These HMI panels can interface either over the serial port or the Ethernet port of motion products. They are also compatible with a range of our motion controllers and drivers, and are programmed and commisioned using easy-to-use, intuitive Windows PC based development tools.
