Press Release

Heason Technology at the Engineering Design Show, Ricoh Arena, Coventry - 18 & 19 October 2017 - Stand D50

Heason Technology returns to the Engineering Design Show with a full line-up of motion control components from its distribution partners as well as working demonstrations displaying the leading UK motion control supplier and system integrators capability for the complete design and build of customised motion systems.

Heason Technology will showcase a custom-designed high-performance pan & tilt positioner that was developed for a leading UK global security sector system integrator. Aimed at applications such as line of sight/beyond line of sight secure communications, this dual-axis rotary technology could be adapted for highly accurate azimuth/elevation positioning for other types of loads such as required across industry and research for antenna, camera or laser based systems.

Housed in a robust IP67- rated cast aluminium enclosure for harsh environment installation, the unit will suit both fixed and mobile use. Its 270 Nm peak-torque capacity is based on a compact dual-axis micro-stepping/zero backlash gearbox drive arrangement which include rotary joints that allows RF and other electrical services to pass through the complete assembly; with full 360⁰ rotary travel for the azimuth axis and +/- 95⁰ for elevation. Absolute encoders provide real-time positional information for closed-loop position control, and through high bandwidth communication, arc-second repeatability and high speed angular positioning performance is assured.  Heason’s application engineers at the show will be pleased to discuss how the modular design of the platform is adaptable and scalable for smaller or larger payloads.

Visitors to stand D50 can also see a selection of precision mechanics, motion controls and software motion components from many of Heason Technology’s distribution partners:

Heason will display a range ultra-compact servo drives and motion controls from Elmo Motion Control. These high performance motion components have the highest available power-density in the market typically featuring EtherCAT networking technology for high speed multi-axis synchronisation. These are extensively used in demanding applications where space and weight is at a premium.

Nanomotion’s direct-drive piezo-ceramic motor technology may be supplied separately or built into high performance positioning stages providing the ability, for instance, for use as autofocus stages for digital microscopy instruments or for nanopositioners in biotech and medical applications. Nanomotion’s ceramic motor technology leads the way in miniature nanometre precision positioning with extreme acceleration characteristics as well as durability for heavy shock and vibration, high temperature, vacuum and non-magnetic use.

Used to measure absolute position or speed accurately and with high levels of durability that suit harsh environment applications, the Zettlex IncOder® is a unique inductive sensor technology which perfectly matches Heason’s design and build philosophy. These lightweight and robust non-contact rotary position sensors do not require bearings and have no delicate parts.

High precision zero-backlash reduction gear units from Spinea are particularly suitable where limited installation space as well high power/high precision rotary positioning are important design issues. With high-torque capacity and extremely high levels of axial and radial rigidity, they are typically built into compact precision rotary actuators complete with servo drives and feedback encoders using Heason’s specialised design capability.

Servotecnica range of slip ring assemblies and rotary joints are used for transferring power, electrical, video and RF signals etc. from rotary to stationary platforms and vice-versa. Available as separate slip ring and brush block components or as complete assemblies with IP ratings to match arduous environments, they have played an important role in some of Heason’s machine designs.

Thomson’s wide selection of linear actuators, linear units and precision mechanics are available in industrial and precision grades and are extensively used in Heason’s custom-designed systems. Applications range from simple pick & place gantry positioners for materials handling to very high accuracy/high speed use in multi-axis positioning systems.
