Types of Gearbox There are many different types of gearboxes available. Gearboxes form part of our product portfolio, we have extensive knowledge and years of experience in supplying gearboxes to a range of industries for different applications. A gearbox can be described as a method of transferring rotational motion or energy from one device to another. We generally refer to our gear systems as reduction gears as we use them to reduce speed resulting in increased torque. Types of Gearbox At Heason, we mainly deal with three different types of gearbox. Planetary, worm and cycloidal zero backlash:- Planetary Gearbox – our planetary gearboxes come from our supplier Thomson, they are available in different shapes and sizes and are ideal for applications which require high endurance particulary robotics and 3D printing. They are highly accurate and are well known for their precision in applications. They can increase the lifespan of a system and optimise the performance. They can be solid or hollow format and have a unique RediMount system to directly couple to any servo or stepper motor. Worm Gears – these are also known as wheel gearboxes, they are driven by an input shaft rotating on an axis at 90 to the output axis. They have specific thread profiles which allow the worm to push or pull the wheel as it rotates. Worm gears offer the ability to obtain very large ratios with few moving parts. This makes them especially well suited to systems which require high reliability and low maintenance. Zero Backlash Gearbox – high precision reduction gears well suited to demanding applications. Our zero backlash gears offer a great torque to weight ratio, high precision and high linearity of torsional characteristics. Uses for Gearboxes Gearboxes are used within large motion control devices, some of the applications they are commonly found in are; Conveyers Agitators Cranes Crushers Cooling towers Packaging machinery Elevators Filters Feeders Robotics Medical Applications Security Machine tools Navigation Gearboxes from Heason Our gearboxes are available to view on our website. They are an important device within motion control. For more information on gearboxes or to discuss your application please contact our team.
