Slip Rings for Wind Turbines

Are you looking for the most suitable Slip Ring for your Wind Turbine application but unsure of the right product for your requirement?

Slip Rings are a good solution to avoid cable twisting whilst currents pass through the pylon of a wind turbine. As a result, the pod, located at the top of the pylon, can freely rotate depending on wind direction. They are also able to transfer power from few hundreds Watts to several dozens of Kilowatts thus combining reliability and low-cost technology.

To help you choose the best Slip Ring for your wind turbine application, we have reviewed three different Series available.

SRK Series Slip Ring

These cost-effective Electric Rotary Joints offer a compact solution providing high performance whilst keeping costs down.

This series is characterised by a through-hole making use of a special technology which allows multiple contact points between brushes and rings, low contact electric resistance, reduced electric noise and low wear. Through-holes range from 25 mm to 60 mm in diameter with currents from 20 to 60 A.

This affordable rotary joint is ideal for integrating into machine structures where there are no risks of contamination.

SRW Series Slip Ring

The SRW series of Slip Rings offers low peripheral speed between brushes and rings, thus reducing material wear and tear, and enhancing its lifetime.

Designed to deliver a flexible, cost-effective, reliable and high-quality solution, these units are available in many standard configurations from 3 to 56 circuits. The gold technology used minimises noise and interferences between the rings allowing a high data rate and frequency signal transmission.

SRC032 Series Slip Ring

Thanks to a small ring diameter, the SRC032 Slip Ring grants low peripheral speed between brushes and rings as well as reduced dynamic imbalance which results in low wear and an extended shelf life.

Designed for intensive use at high speeds of up to 400rpm, and for transmitting power and sensitive signals these Slip Rings ensure a compact and reliable solution.

In addition to this, the IP65 version makes it washable, guaranteeing protection against low-pressure jets of water.
