Motion Control Definition

Motion control is defined as the process of monitoring the movement of components within a machine or device to allow them to move properly and accurately for the device to function correctly.

Motion control is taking place everywhere. There are a whole host of applications that require motion control and a vast selection of products that can control motion to achieve the desired results.

Motion control is part of automation and is a vital process for precision, efficiency and accuracy.

Products used in Motion Control

There are many different types of products used in motion control. We have a wide portfolio of motion control products that are used in an array of applications in various industries.

Our product portfolio includes;

Motors – one of the most common products in motion control. In our range of motors, we have a selection of servo motors, stepper motors, geared motors, pancake motors and direct drive motors. We also have a range of compatible drives.

Servo Drives – this is another popular category for use within motion control. In our range, we have AC or DC servo drives as well as stepper drives and servo drives, especially for harsh environments.

Actuators – actuators enable movement and control within a larger system. Our range includes linear or rotary actuators as well as industrial actuators and screw jacks.

Linear Positioning – determining linear potion can be a vital part of motion control applications. in our range we have screw driven linear units, belt-driven linear units, lifting columns, linear guides and precision joints.

Precision Stages – these are used in applications where high precision positioning is required. Our range includes; screw driven stages, direct drive stages and rotary stages.

Gearboxes – gearboxes are a series of integrated gears within a housing. They are available in various types, our portfolio includes planetary gearboxes, zero backlash gearboxes and worm gears.

Slip Rings – slip rings are used where static electricity needs to be converted into rotatory motion. Our portfolio includes capsule slip rings, hollow shaft slip rings, flat slip rings and harsh environment slip rings.

Machine Control – our range of machine control products includes motion controllers, machine safety devices, HMIs and Remote I/O.

Precision Screws – precision screws are used to convert linear motion into rotary motion and vice versa. We have a range of different precision screws which include ball screws, lead screws, glide screws, trapezoidal screws and ball splines.

As well as the above range of products we also offer bespoke motion control solutions. We have extensive design and manufacturing capabilities and over three decades of experience. Take a look at some of our Bespoke Motion Solutions.
