Custom Positioning Systems

Did you know that we offer custom positioning systems? We have over 30 years of industry experience which has given us the know-how we need to develop positioning systems that are bespoke to customer requirements.

What is a positioning system?

A positioning system can include several devices. As you can see from the examples given below, there is not a “one size fits all”.

Positioning systems include various motion control products such as servo motors, stepper motors, drives, motion controllers and linear components.

Positioning systems control the position of an object in a very precise, controlled manner. This can be in either a linear motion or a rotary motion and in some cases a combination of both. The object can be moved at a controlled acceleration, speed and deceleration to the desired position.

Successfully delivered positioning systems applications

Heason has successfully delivered positioning systems into a variety of industries and applications. Here are a few notable examples:-

Beamline Collimation – at the Diamond Light Source in South Oxfordshire we designed and built a 21-axis positioning system to provide beam collimation, optical focusing, and optical modification for their 124 microfocus macromolecular crystallography (MX) beamline. This system used piezo ceramic motor technology to deliver sub-micron position of elements within the beamlines including within high vacuum areas.

Motorsports Driver Simulation – we have designed, manufactured, and delivered high dynamic motion positioning systems for many driving and vehicle training simulators. Here the importance is on fast response and smooth motion.

Gap Wiggler – Danfysik in Demark was looking for new control system hardware and software for their Moveable Gap Dampening Wigglers. This project involved six complete EPICS based controlled systems. We were able to complete the project for them with an on-site installation and test at their facility in Denmark.

6 Degrees of freedom systems  - we have designed and built 6 degrees of freedom hexapod systems for applications ranging from the movie industry to simulations, testing and targeting systems. Here our expertise in mechanical “stiffness” and complex positioning results in benefits for our customers.
