Heason's involvement in transport is emerging as the various industries absorb the benefits of servo motor based motion controls. Through our distribution partnership with Allied Motion Inc., we support the USA manufacturer’s range of electric power steering systems aimed at steer-by-wire autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) as well as manually operated storage and retrieval vehicles. These complete products replace the several motion components required for power steering by integrating a precision brushless servo motor and planetary gear unit, an optional custom drive pinion and an advanced CANbus-equipped motion controller. As a derivative of this technology we have also worked with 4-wheel steering systems for autonomous electric buses. For the rail industries we have designed an electro-mechanical points switching actuator to replace previous hydraulic system. With close regard to the stringent safety and reliability required for the application, the unit features many safety features that are integral to servo motion controls. We have also completed extensive work for electric train pantographs with electric actuators to improve the dynamic contact between the train and the overhead cables, along with other projects in railway research and development with universities.
