New Danaher S700 Digital Drive
Date: 18 December 2006

Ready to face the future!
The new digital servo amplifier with a performance range up to 24 A offering Ethernet connection and additional safety options.
Danaher Motion, the specialist in drive and control technology, expands its Servostar range by introducing a new, powerful product providing additional functions that are fit for the future. The Danaher Motion S700, which is compatible with the Servostar S300, is designed for rated output currents up to 24 A and features an Ethernet interface and a slot for a safety expansion card, which facilitates operator intervention on the machine even when the motor is switched on.
With the onboard Ethernet connection, Danaher Motion has really equipped its new drive for the future, as a growing number of customers are moving toward Ethernet-based communication via systems such as EtherCAT, SynqNet or Profinet. The S700 onboard interface means that customers have no need for additional, expensive expansion cards. They only need the appropriate software. Danaher Motion is also looking to the future in terms of safety. Increasing productivity requirements now demand that operators can safely intervene on a machine even when the motor is switched on, for example, when a load needs to be retained or the machine has to continue to run slowly. To this end, the S700 has been equipped with an additional slot for a safety expansion card, which supports safety functions such as safely reduced speed and safe operational stop. Another new feature is the optional MMC memory card, which enables parameter records and firmware to be backed up and copied extremely quickly and easily in the field.
Based on the same architecture and equipped with the same processor as the Servostar S300, the S700 also offers the familiar, easy-to-use startup software. Two other slots provided in addition to the safety slot are intended for use with the familiar S300 expansion cards as well as custom expansion cards requiring a large bus size. This means that almost all common fieldbus connections are supported, including SERCOS, Profibus DP, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, SynqNet, DiasBus, FireWire, LightBus, and ModBus Plus. All conceivable custom modifications are also possible. Furthermore, the S700 can evaluate all common types of feedback, for example, resolvers, ComCoders, incremental encoders, as well as high-resolution single- or multi-turn sine-cosine encoders via BISS, EnDat or HIPERFACE. It also features numerous ready-to-use I/O and position-control functions.
Other highlights of the fully digitally-controlled S700 are that it can be completely programmed via an RS232 interface, it is easy to operate using a PC running WINDOWST 2000/XP or two keys located directly on the amplifier, and it has a built-in LED status display and a standard restart lock. This new Danaher Motion drive fits into 300 mm switchgear cabinets and has a line filter and all shield connections directly on the amplifier. The DC links support parallel connection.
With its extensive functionality and excellent communication capabilities, this new drive is ideal for all types of complex drive task.
